I think Mrs. Constance McCashin brought so much to Knots Landing as Laura. There were so many changes that I was dissapointed over during the run of Knots Landing. but loosing this character was the worse.
I loved watching but it wasn't ever the same for me.
Watching these seasons over and over as I do, I have to say, after this season of Laura leaving to die. The show after, was never the same.
Laura's death took away the magic the series maintained. The bond this character shared with the other characters had been badly broken.
I felt she was the glue that helped hold everything together between the other characters.. Karen, Val, Gary, even Abby's character became stronger from Constance's character. Abby feed off of Laura. She was the one character that collided with Abby's strong character but remained intact.
Laura held her own when it came to the games Abby played.
To me the show was never felt the same.
They took away the greatest characters after this season and substituted them with other weak characters..
I never understood.
As much love I have for Knots Landing, the bond was broken and was very hard to get that spark back.
The leaving of Constance McCashin, the death of Laura was well written, but with the exit of Constance really hurt the series in the future.

I loved this character, I feel like we missed out not seeing more of Constance McCashin in other roles. I've watched her on talk shows during Knots days and also on a game show. I try to rent or find movies with her in it but nothing much shows up. I feel like she had ended way before she should have. I LOVE YOU CONSTANCE McCASHIN!!! Tennessee
Thank you for being FOREVER in our hearts. I loved watching you. Christie NY.
I remember crying when she left. Her exit, it was so strange to write a charachter out of the show that way. The truth of it is I think her charachter was the only one who could have been that strong--just to leave everyone so they didn't have to see her sick. I often wonder what happened to her, what other work she did. Laura was always a favorite of mine.

I think, was the only character who had any real sense. She always saw things for what they actually were. It isn't any wonder she met and fell for Greg.
The loss of Laura on KNOTS, was a loss for all of us viewers who totally knew where she was coming from. I thoroughly believe the show would have been just as entertaining had she not been abruptly dropped from the show due to budget cuts. Laura-We love and we miss you. Thank you for what YOU brought to millions of viewer's favorite cul-de-sac.Joseph / Tornado,WV
I have most of all scenes of Laura...She was my favorite of all the women. She had grace and knew how to hold things together as a very strong woman. What's amazing is she was in a time where most of us women didn't
really have many choices..What I mean is we where so use to the doing as were told and not very creative on our part, or maybe I'm speaking for myself. Eventhough she is a character on a night time drama, as I watched and the way she carried herself and one of few women on Knots that pushed things back into Abby's face... I LOVE YOU Constance McCashin for creating a character such as Laura. Mesha / Auburndale, Fl
I agree with Mesha..Constance McCashin created a lady that we could all appriciate and grew from. Showing us not to let things that normally destroy us as a woman with children. The character never let her head down for long. She always got back up showing strength that also showed us how and that we should be stronger.. I also loved the character and the lady behind it for creating the things she did with her roll as Laura

Laura was one of my favorite people by far in the first couple of seasons but after Richard left the show I really didn't like the direction her character went. She become really arrogant and didn't seem to have much to do with the other characters anymore at the exception of Gregory sumner. I think they changed her character too much but then again she would change after her husband left her. still I really like her in the earlier episodes and some of the much later ones before she died too .

Eventhough the years have past. I wanted to create this page for Constance McCashin & her character Laura Avery Sumner. When we watch someone who is a great actress as Constance, we tend to get emotional tied to her as a character and as a person. I felt that she was over looked in a way. In a way many actresses are. This was one reason why I built this page was to give a little back.Constance having to leave the show, really changed Knots Landing. Maybe "SILLY" to you but for myself it was a teriffic memory. So my love for the show, Laura, & Constance McCashin, I really wanted to hear comments on what she meant to you. JDK
of all the characters that had to die or be murdered on knots landing, this one was the hardest for me. i loved watching what she brought to the show.

When I think of Knots Landing, I always think about Laura, Constance's character I felt was one of the hearts that made this show great. it was a shame that she had to go.

It took a little while for me to warm up to Laura. She seemed kind of wimpy at first. As time went on, her character was subtly developed and I really started looking for more from her. The writers on this show were excellent and while I think Laura's character was undeveloped in someways, she never took had any huge emotional upheavals that caused drug, alcohol, lying, cheating, stealing, or murder. Her character handled everything with greate character and strength. The episodes leading up to the way she left was the most touching thing that I've seen.
Thanks for starting this page.... Norma / TN

Out of "All" the characters on Knots Landing, Laura was by far one of my favorites to watch.
Mrs. McCashin took her to a place no one else could have. The sarcastic looks that only she brought where brilliant.

Laura Avery Sumner.
This character in my eyes brought thrills and excitement with her sassy come backs toward other characters, Abby, Greg, not to mention her first husband Richard. I think the one I'll always remember was the fun I had watching Laura when Ava Gardner joined in with the series as Greg’s mother Ruth Galveston.
The writing and acting between the
four characters, Abby, Greg, Ruth
and Laura, was brilliant. It was funny,
refreshing and oh yea, very bitchy.

Personally I loved this episode but still not clear what part it played with Knots Landing and defiantly one of the strangest in the series of Knots Landing. lol... Jim K

I love how you have Laura's page designed! She was always so elegant, even being married to Richard and Greg. I was so amazed at how professional she always carried herself! Thank you for providing her last days, and part of when she died. Maybe you could show us the funeral episode, too! Awesome!!! :)

I fell in love with the character of Laura in season 1, I believe episode 4 entitled "The Lie". Constance McCashin is a phenominal actress. She was never over the top. Her subtleties are what made her extraordinary. Knots Landing is my all time favorite TV show and it's in large part because she graced the screen.
